Abstract
This article presents a comprehensive review of the literature regarding the use of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) in alcohol and food products, with an emphasis on its effects on human health. The review is based on three pivotal articles, a recent systematic review, and a systematic review in which the following conclusions are drawn: (1) the use of sildenafil citrate as an add-on to Viagra is generally considered safe, with no evidence of adverse effects; (2) it does not have a significant relationship with cardiovascular mortality; and (3) the safety profile of sildenafil citrate does not appear to be affected by any medications administered to men with erectile dysfunction. A discussion of the potential hazards of Viagra use is presented.
Keywords:Viagra, alcohol, food, alcohol products
ation of ViagraThe literature review was based on three of the three studies; the studies included in this review (1) a randomized, controlled trial of sildenafil citrate in men with erectile dysfunction; (2) a meta-analysis of sildenafil citrate and placebo treatment in healthy men; and (3) the first review of sildenafil citrate in alcohol and food products.
This article is part of a series of articles published in the journal Drug and Drug Addiction (DDAFAD) entitledDrug and Drug Addictive Additives: Viagra, Alcohol, Food Additives, and Human HealthDDAFADis a new journal of drug and drug products. It is intended to discuss the health benefits of the use of Viagra in alcohol, as well as the safety and effectiveness of sildenafil citrate. This article focuses on the possible effects of Viagra on human health, including its possible effects on the cardiovascular system, the relationship between sildenafil citrate and cardiovascular disease, and the potential impact of sildenafil citrate on the brain and on the cardiovascular system. Finally, we discuss the potential risk and side effects of Viagra in relation to cardiovascular disease and the potential relationship between sildenafil citrate and cardiovascular disease.
A review of the literature for sildenafil citrate is presented. A total of 17 studies were searched from January 1, 2006 to May 15, 2014 for published literature. A total of 11 studies were included in this review, two of which were published in English and two of which were published in French. The included articles were published in English and French, respectively. The included articles were published in peer-reviewed journals.
The systematic review (1) looked at studies that included men taking sildenafil citrate and who reported that they used it. They found that there were no significant differences between men taking sildenafil citrate and those taking placebo in the prevalence of heart failure, cardiovascular mortality, and mortality from all causes in the men taking sildenafil citrate. The studies included in this review, however, showed no significant differences between men taking sildenafil citrate and those taking placebo in the incidence of heart failure, cardiovascular mortality, and mortality from all causes. The systematic review excluded studies of men with diabetes or heart failure or who have undergone heart surgery.
The systematic review and the review by Dargin, et al. (2014) (2) looked at studies that included men taking sildenafil citrate and who reported that they used it. They found no significant differences between men taking sildenafil citrate and those taking placebo in the prevalence of heart failure, cardiovascular mortality, and mortality from all causes in men taking sildenafil citrate. The systematic review also excluded studies of men with diabetes or heart failure or who have undergone heart surgery.
The following publications were published in the systematic review: (3) a systematic review by Fusselli, et al.
